Our Vision, Mission & Values

Our Vision

Our vision is a human society that flourishes in partnership with the living systems which support life on our miraculous planet. We believe in human ingenuity and integrity. We help our clients rethink old approaches and unleash innovation so that they can thrive and lead in an uncertain and challenging world.

We believe that human enterprise needs to transition rapidly to systems, processes and products that use and reuse resources wisely, that clean up and prevent toxic waste, and that appreciate, honor, and celebrate diverse skills and cultures. We believe that people have the creativity and ingenuity to invent and apply new methods and to leave behind old models built on extraction and exploitation.

Our Mission

The challenge of our time is to rethink how we use resources, how we work with others, and how we define success. Our planet is in peril. Business as usual won’t work anymore. Our mission is to help you rise to the challenge, succeed and thrive as an enterprise, and help you support the success and thriving of your industry, customers, communities, and the ecosystems on which all life depends.

Land Acknowledgement

We believe it is essential to honor the indigenous peoples whose land our offices occupy as a step toward equity and reconciliation. Members of the Tribal Nations of the Pacific Northwest, the Sierra Foothills and the San Francisco Peninsula have cared for and preserved these lands since time immemorial, and we are deeply grateful. We grieve the forceful removal of the indigenous ancestors and the dispossession of their descendants who continue to reside here.  We aspire to be responsible stewards of this one beautiful Earth and to contribute to the best of our ability to her care.

We acknowledge that our Portland, Oregon office is located on lands that have been occupied and stewarded by members of the Cowlitz, Multnomah, Siletz, and Grand Ronde tribes.

Our Auburn, California office is situated on ancestral homelands of the Nisenan and Maidu.

Our San Francisco office sits on the Yelamu territory, the ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula and we further acknowledge the Chochenyo and Muwekma Ohlone.
