The first webinar in the series, Envisioning Resilient Transportation Systems, will explore how cities can transition to net-zero transportation in the face of climate change and evolving urban challenges.
Our featured keynote speaker, Professor Peter Newman, is a globally recognized expert in sustainable cities and transportation. His keynote, "Hope for Cities in the Net Zero Global Economy," will offer actionable insights into designing resilient, low-carbon urban transport systems.
Peter Newman is the Professor of Sustainability at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. He has written 24 books and over 420 papers on sustainable cities with a global reputation and has worked to deliver his ideas in all levels of government in Australia. His latest book is Net Zero Cities with Sustainability: A Practitioners Approach which he will use in the Webinar. Peter and Jeff Kenworthy wrote a trilogy of books on automobile dependence which established this concept from 1989 to 2015. Peter has been a Visiting Professor at University of Pennsylvania, University of Virginia Charlottesville, University of Colorado Boulder, Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and National University of Singapore. He was the Co-ordinating Lead Author for the UN’s IPCC on Transport in the 2022 Mitigation Report. In 2014 he was awarded an Order of Australia for his contributions to urban design and sustainable transport particularly for his work in saving and rebuilding Perth’s rail system.
